06.06.2010 | Mark: to serve & to give | The Things That Belong to God | Mark 12:13-17
Thursday, 10 June 201006.06.2010 | Mark: to serve & to give | The Things That Belong to God | Mark 12:13-17 |
Pastor Gary Pauley. Jesus said that what belongs to Caesar should be given to Caesar. But things that "belong to God" should also be given to him! So, what belongs to God? What would Jesus expect his church to do with this principle? What would it look like if the church took this principle to heart?
05.30.2010 | Mark: to serve & to give | A Parable Against Them | Mark 11:27 - 12:12
Tuesday, 01 June 201005.30.2010 | Mark: to serve & to give | A Parable Against Them | Mark 11:27 - 12:12 |
We are at a section of Mark where Jesus publicly presents himself as Messiah. And as Messiah he has a pretty different vision for Temple worship than the religious leaders did (like throwing everyone out of the temple confines!). This puts him in a position of antagonism with the religious leaders of the day...who see Jesus as an enemy, a blasphemer.
They challenge Jesus...not with a frontal assault accusing his theology. Instead, they ask him to defend himself by challenging his authority.
Jesus tells a story. Mark says that he told it against them (Mark 12:12). And they understood. So the Jerusalem drama continues...all the way to the cross.
05.23.2010 Mark: to serve & to give | Cursing the Fig Tree (Mark 11:20-27)
Monday, 24 May 201005.23.2010 | Mark: to serve & to give | Cursing the Fig Tree | Mark 11:20-27 |
Pastor Gary Pauley. Is Jesus an industry today? Of course he is...we all know it. We see it in the Jesus t-shirts, action figures, and mugs. It would probably stagger us to know how much money changes hands in the name of Gospel ministry. Of course it's not all bad...there are wonderful, legitimate resources for the believer. But there is also just crass consumerism at the expense of the Gospel.
Jesus saw it in his day. In fact, he confronted it.
05.09.2010 | Mark: to serve & to give | The Presentation of the King | Mark 10:46- 11:11
Tuesday, 11 May 201005.09.2010 | Mark: to serve & to give | The Presentation of the King | Mark 10:46-11:11 |
Pastor Gary Pauley. There are a lot of opinions out there about who Jesus is. Only one counts... who He declared Himself to be. In the last part of Mark 10 and the first part of Mark 11 we see Jesus presented as Savior, Lord, and God...
05.02.2010 | Mark: to serve & to give | The Kingdom Standard: Success Redefined | Mark 10:35-45
Monday, 03 May 201005.02.2010 | Mark: to serve & to give | The Kingdom Standard: Success Redefined | Mark 10:35-45 |
Pastor Gary Pauley. There are various definitions of success out there. But for the Christian, only the definition that Jesus gives should matter. And He lived it, by giving Himself to serving others...

04.18.10 | The Big Miss (Luke 15)
Monday, 19 April 201004.18.10 | The Big Miss | Luke 15 |
Chuck Allen, Servant Community Church. This message Jesus' parable of the lost son, is part of the "What if the Church?" series. There were two rebellious sons in the story. One returned in repentance. The other rebelled religiously. Which one are you?
04.11.2010 | Mark: to serve & to give | The Rich Young Ruler | Mark 10:17-32
Monday, 12 April 201004.11.2010 | Mark: to serve & to give | The Rich Young Ruler | Mark 10:17-32 |
Pastor Gary Pauley. This story is intriguing. This young man asks a question that everyone would like answered... How do I get to heaven? Jesus however showed him that the issue is really about Lordship! At first blush the account and Jesus' response seems a bit arbitrary... or was it?
04.04.2010 | The Words of Easter | Luke 24:13-32
Tuesday, 06 April 2010The Words of Easter | Luke 24:13-32 |
Pastor Gary Pauley. In Luke 24 there are important truths that have changed the world. The are expressed in words from followers of Jesus and from Jesus Himself. These words show disciples that had been devastated by the death of Jesus, struggling to see any purpose or hope in it at all. These words show how Jesus put his own execution into the perspective of God's plan... it did not end on a Roman cross. These words show how Jesus wanted His disciples to respond to His crucifixion and resurrection... with confidence in His Lordship instead of regret or weakness at His sacrifice.
03.28.2010 | The Haze | Censored: Can you share your faith without sounding like a bigot? | Acts 17:
Monday, 29 March 201003.28.2010 | The Haze | Censored: Can you share your faith without sounding like a bigot? | Acts 17:22-35 |
Pastor Gary Pauley. When in Athens, Paul shared his faith with some egghead philospher types. He was bold, direct, clear, even a little edgy. Unfortunately, in today's culture "bigot" often just means someone who believes something really is true. Paul clearly thought that the Gospel that he preached was true. How did he go about it?
03.21.2010 | The Haze | Purity | 1 Corinthians 6:12-20
Monday, 22 March 201003.21.2010 | The Haze | Purity | 1 Corinthians 6:12-20 |
Pastor Gary Pauley. We live in a culture where everything seems to be permissible. But scripture shows us a different way. In Paul's first letter to the Corinthians, he gave advise to Christians in a similar situation. They could not make just any old "lifestyle choice" as if there were no Kingdom standards. To make his teaching really applicable, Paul interacts with some of the loose moral slogans of the day and shows the difference that Christian thinking brings to them.
