Gary Pauley. Mark: to Serve & to Give: The People | Mark 14:42-65
When the religious leaders couldn't even get false witnesses to agree about charges against Jesus, the high priest finally tried to get Him to commit blasphemy. Did He? That depends on whether He was Who He said He was.

08.08.2010 | Mark: to Serve & to Give | Judas | Mark 14:43-50
Judas is one of the most curious figures in the story of Jesus. A part of the inner circle, he is now synonymous with betrayal and back stabbing deceit. With his act of betrayal a whole series of events are set into motion that give us a dramatic view of the character of the twelve. How could Judas appear to be so close to Jesus, but not be a true disciple? And could that happen today?
08.01.2010 | Mark: to Serve & to Give | Watch and Pray: Strength to Stand
Monday, 02 August 2010
08.01.2010 | Mark: to Serve & to Give | Watch and Pray: Strength to Stand | Mark 14:32-42 |
Disciples forget that they are subject to the antagonisms of an enemy (Lk. 22:31). Their first line of defense is a robust prayer life, but prayer is a difficult discipline to maintain. Peter, James, and John found it difficult. But Jesus reminded them how important it is for the disciple to remain spiritually strong.
07.25.2010 | Mark: to Serve & to Give | The Lord's Supper | Mark 14:10-31
Monday, 26 July 2010
07.25.2010 | Mark: to Serve & to Give | The Lord's Supper | Mark 14:10-31 |
Pastor Gary Pauley. How would the disciples recover from the shock of seeing their Master executed? How would they respond in the middle of the ordeal? Jesus spent some time with the 12 before his death preparing them to remember him after he was gone. We remember him in a similar way during communion celebrations - and the purpose is the same ... to keep disciples focused on him until his return.
07.18.2010 | Mark: to Serve & to Give | Reconsidering Worship | Mark 14:1-9
Tuesday, 20 July 2010
07.18.2010 | Pastor Gary Pauley | Mark: to Serve & to Give | Reconsidering Worship | Mark 14:1-9 |
Pastor Gary Pauley. Jesus commended a woman for her extravagant way of honoring him. Her worship of him was "over the top." Are we too calculating--too careful in our worship of Jesus? This woman gave what she had...though to others it seemed wreckless. And Jesus commended her.
07.11.2010 | Mark: to serve & to give | Little Apocalypse, Part II | Mark 13
Monday, 12 July 2010
07.11.2010 | Mark: to serve & to give | Little Apocalypse, Part II | Mark 13
Pastor Gary Pauley. Jesus continues his answer to the disciples' question: What will be the signs of the end of the age? As he describes early signs, persecution signs, the tribulation sign, and appearance signs, Jesus reminds them that his return is certain.
07.04.2010 | Mark: to serve & to give | Little Apocalypse | Mark 13
Tuesday, 06 July 2010
07.04.2010 | Mark: to serve & to give | Little Apocalypse | Mark 13 |
Gary Pauley. One might be tempted to see Jesus as a helpless victim ... a victim of Jewish politics and Roman crucifixion. But before giving himself to death on a cross, Jesus gives a bigger context: the context of God's broader plan that ends in Jesus' victorious return. And in the process we get a glimpse of things to come.
06.27.2010 | Mark: to serve & to give | Bad Religion | Mark 12:35-44
Monday, 28 June 201006.27.2010 | Mark: to serve & to give | Bad Religion | Mark 12:35-44 |
Pastor Gary Pauley. As Jesus sits in courtyard of women, an area of the Temple open to all, he sees a poor widow make an extraordinary contribution. Jesus had just been repeatedly attacked by the religious system of the day, and seeing her he thinks of how that system was abusive to so many…for so long. Does our religion cause us to see the need around us…or to use it for our own ends?
06.20.2010 | Mark: to serve & to give | Jesus Sums It Up | Mark 12:28-34
Monday, 21 June 201006.20.2010 | Mark: to serve & to give | Jesus Sums It Up: not far from the kingdom of God | Mark 12:28-34 |
Pastor Martin Burch. In Mark 12 we have seen Jesus tested by the religious opposition almost without any chance to catch His breath! In the passage for this Sunday, we will see him answer the quintessential rabbinical debate. And His answer echoes throughout history and challenges us today. He will root His answer in ancient scriptures but will have vital application RIGHT WHERE we live!
The two great commandments are to love God with all that we are, and love other people like we love ourselves. There is nothing greater, more necessary, or more challenging.
06.13.2010 | Mark: to serve & to give | the scriptures & the power of God | Mark 12:18-27
Tuesday, 15 June 201006.13.2010 | Mark: to serve & to give | The Scriptures & the Power of God | Mark 12:18-27 |
Pastor Martin Burch. We live in an age of unprecedented biblical illiteracy. But Jesus said that even religious leaders can be wrong about God and miss vital truth and the experience of God's power simply by being ignorant of the scriptures. Many want to know God's presence and power. But we cannot know them outside of really knowing, understanding, and believing the scriptures.
